Rock to Paint workshop

Make your own pigment and painting using collected rocks from Antwerp

The Rock to Paint workshop offer a chance to connect to the natural elements found in the participants immediate environment, connecting to what is around them and their relationship with nature. The workshop create space to pause, observe and reflect on the spiritual links we have to our surroundings under the guidance of the Artist Meryem Meg.

The workshop happens in two sessions over a weekend.

OUR WEEKEND TOGETHER INCLUDES:

DAY 1: Making the paints

  • Presentation : Pigment to paints, sourcing and filtering process

  • Groups take turn creating their paint

  • Reflection and talk for next session

    DAY 2: Using handmade watercolour & gouache to create paintings

  • Reflection introduction and looking at all the paints made the day before

  • Prompt about nature found in Antwerp

  • Painting session

  • Reflection on paintings created

The process is a collaborative experience where participants will be working together to make the tones into gouache and watercolours. To create their own pallets that represent the city they live in.

Ticket price includes all materials and light refreshments.

ABOUT THE TEACHER: Meryem Meg

B. 1990 in Varna, of Algerian and Bulgarian parents, currently based in Amsterdam. Meryem focuses on understanding the healing potential of the natural world, through an ecological and spiritual lens.
Dhikr (the Islamic act of contemplation) is a central theme within her ongoing practice. Her work threads itself across painting, video and photography, clay and bookmaking.

Most recently she has held her forth solo show, 'water has memory' in Morocco, and has exhibited work across Japan, the UK, US and UAE amongst others. She has participated in panels at the Tate, Southbank Center and has been on the Jury for The Supporting act foundation.
